The Southern African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO) is pleased to announce the appointment of Annabell Lebethe as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), who stepped into the role on 1 January 2023. Lebethe was appointed following a long and exhaustive search by the SAMRO board, says SAMRO Chairperson Nicholas Maweni, adding that the organisation is confident that she possesses the right qualities and experience to lead it into the future. Prior to this, she served as CEO of Ditsong Museums of South Africa, a group of eight museums that falls under the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture. She also previously held the position of interim CEO of the Performing Arts Centre of the Free State, CEO of the Market Theatre Foundation and CEO of the National Arts Council, in addition to several other leadership roles during her career. She will replace outgoing CEO Mark Rosin, who was appointed as CEO and turnaround strategist in February 2020 and was mandated with turning the organisatio

Following musician Mampintsha’s untimely passing on Christmas Eve, his mother Zamanguni Gumede has reportedly been hospitalized as she has been struggling with accepting her son’s passing and reportedly still asks about him. According to reports, the mom suffered a stroke and that her health has deteriorated since burying her son. She is also reportedly unable to speak or walk. Mampintsha’s sister spoke on her mother’s illness saying, “She is not taking Mandla’s death well. She started feeling ill before him but got worse when he was first admitted to the hospital.” “The doctor says her liver has been affected and she also has been diagnosed with a stroke. But her stroke is not bad, she will not be disabled if she takes her medication. She has not been able to eat properly and that is affecting how she takes her medication,”  she added before asking for help to have the mother admitted to a private hospital as she is
